Bird watching holidays in the Languedoc

A new destination for Mediterranean bird watching in France ...

Thanks to a particularly rich diversity of habitats, the Languedoc offers some of the best birdwatching in France, and the Narbonnaise Regional Park and surrounding area is becoming increasingly popular for bird watching holidays.

Local geography and prevailing winds can provide some spectacular birding at the two major migration spots at Leucate (April-May) and Gruissan (late July to mid-October).

Resident birds include everything from Greater flamingo to Bonelli's eagle and many other species in between. Colourful summer visitors include Bee-eater, Roller and Golden oriole, with Lesser grey shrike and Lesser kestrel adding further interest. In early summer the noise of the Nightingales becomes almost deafening and the Eagle owl is always popular!
